ProVista St. Augustine: The New Sod Orlando, FL Homeowners Can’t Wait to Try

Every once in a while, a new sod appears on the market and everybody goes crazy for it.

The newest lawn darling is ProVista sod, a trademarked sod by Scotts that promises a lush, dense, deep green lawn with fewer weeds.

What’s so exciting about this new sod? Scott’s is making some pretty intriguing claims.

Let’s take a look:

ProVista St. Augustine Sod: What Is It?

ProVista has a deep green color and thrives in full sun, but also does well in moderate shade.

It’s genetically altered Floratam, the most popular St. Augustine cultivar used in Florida. But ProVista St. Augustine sod doesn’t grow and spread as rapidly as Floratam.

ProVista Sod: Less Mowing

ProVista is engineered to be slow growing, which means less mowing. Scotts claims you only need to mow ProVista sod every two weeks during the peak growing season.

ProVista Sod: Weed Control

ProVista grows dense to naturally crowd out weeds.

It’s engineered to tolerate a broader range of weed control products, too, so you can control more weeds with ProVista than with other types of turf.

It can actually tolerate glyphosate, which is the key ingredient in the brand name Round- up, which is a non-selective weed killer that controls just about everything it touches. That means you can eliminate many weeds and even other problem grasses without damaging your ProVista sod!

ProVista Sod: Save Money

Add up the savings from using less fertilizer, less weed control, and less mowing, and that’s considerable, especially for commercial property owners. Scotts estimates a savings of $1,500 per acre in mowing costs alone.

ProVista Sod: Sustainability

Thick, healthy lawns reduce runoff and absorb carbon dioxide from the air. ProVista goes even further – requiring less mowing, fertilizer, and weed control treatments than conventional turf.

Less mowing means less noise pollution and less gas used

ProVista will also remain greener with less fertilizer than standard Floratam sod. That means you can cut back on the fertilizer you use, saving money and keeping excess fertilizer out of the environment.
